Denmark raises 2026 GDP outlook, boosted by Novo Nordisk Wegovy pill

COPENHAGEN, Aug 27 (Reuters) - Denmark raised its GDP growth forecast for 2026 to 3.7% from its previous expectation in May of 2.7%, the Nordic country's taxation and economic growth ministry said on Thursday.
"The growth of the Danish economy should be viewed primarily in the context of the pharmaceutical industry's rising exports, a large portion of which are related to the U.S. market," Taxation and Cconomic Growth Minster Jacob Engel-Schmidt said in a statement.
He added that the global market for weight-loss drugs continued to grow and that Novo Nordisk's launch of its new Wegovy pill in the beginning of this year has contributed to higher growth than previously expected.
The ministry also raised its forecast for GDP in 2027 to 1.8%, up from its previous expectation in May of 1.6%.
Denmark's central bank said in March it expects GDP growth of 1.8% both this year and next, compared with forecasts from September last year of 2% for 2026 and 1.7% for 2027.
Denmark is also home to global companies like shipping group Maersk, brewer Carlsberg, toymaker Lego and wind turbine maker Vestas.
